District Safety Training Day

District Safety Training

On Monday, August 6, 2018, Taylor County School District kicked off the 2018-2019 school year by having their District Safety Training for all teachers, administrators, and staff members.

Superintendent Charles Higdon Jr. began the morning by welcoming staff to the new year and discussing Taylor County School District’s mission and vision for the upcoming school year. New teachers and staff members, as well as school staff transfers, were introduced to their fellow co-workers during breakfast.

Safety measures that are currently underway in the district and within the schools that were discussed during the morning safety training session included hiring of the 4thSchool Resource Officer, installation of the Barracuda System in all classrooms, Safety Roundtable Discussion with First Responders, revised safety plans for all schools, expectations for visitors, staff badges, traffic changes at the Broadway campus, launching of the Mayday App, Hero Days, and feedback from the Community Safety Survey.

Employees of Taylor County Schools also heard from their Transportation Director, Rodney Turpin and Bus Driver, Mike Thomas, regarding bus safety. School Resource Officers Bobby Gribbins, Ricky Underwood, Robby VanCleave and Tim Coppage spoke concerning lockdown situations and active shooter drills. The officers shared their passion for the safety and well being of our students and staff!

Taylor County School District also invited guest speakers discuss emergency situations and crisis management.  The district would like to thank the following individuals and entities who took time out of their schedules to provide input to help make our district and schools as safe as possible: Brent Lile with Campbellsville Fire Rescue, Chris Wilson, R.N., Taylor Regional Hospital Emergency Department Director, Ronnie Dooley with Taylor County Office of Emergency Management, and Brian Pickard, Captain, Taylor County Sheriff’s Department.

When the morning safety training session concluded, schools broke off to attend sessions led by their school-level administrators.

The district would like to thank all administrators and speakers who helped make the District Safety Training day possible! We are looking forward to a safe and successful school year!
