School-Based Enterprise Spotlight: CARDINAL KROGER

Cardinal Kroger

Approximately 30 students per year participate in Cardinal Kroger. Cardinal Kroger is open to the school and public on school days during 5th, 6th, and 7th periods (12:15pm-2:30pm).

The product mix sold in Cardinal Kroger includes snacks, beverages, school supplies, and coffee items. Their primary target market is 9th-12th grade students and their secondary target market includes high school faculty and staff.

Daily gross sales average between $250 - $350 per day. The average profit margin is about 30%.

All profits generated from Cardinal Kroger go directly to support the TCHS DECA Club. This SBE serves as a year-long fundraiser for students in DECA, in turn making their travel expenses more affordable for regional, state, and national DECA conferences. For example, the State Convention in Louisville this year cost about $190 per student to attend but with the profits from Cardinal Kroger, each student paid $90 to attend.

FUN FACT: Cardinal Kroger exposes all of its students to the Human Resource department at our local Kroger grocery store. This has led to multiple different students receiving real employment opportunities at Kroger.

"The best thing about Cardinal Kroger is the hands-on, real-life experience that it provides to students." - Kailey Thompson, 2019 TCHS Graduate and 2018-2019 Cardinal Kroger Store Manager.

Cardinal Kroger is part of the Marketing Pathway offered at Taylor County High School. Juniors and seniors are able to participate in the SBE once they have completed two classes in the pathway.

Marcus Rodgers is the Cardinal Kroger/ DECA sponsor and Business Teacher at TCHS.
