Thanksgiving Food Drive

Taylor County High School's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive was a success once again this school year!

Thanksgiving is a holiday characterized by large family dinners, making the days leading up to the holiday one of the busiest times of the year for organizations serving the hungry.

To help meet this demand, before the Thanksgiving rush, members of TCHS FFA and the Agriculture Department organize a canned food drive that benefits Green River Ministries and our local food bank.

A total of 9,070 items were collected!!

Mrs. Tina Dial’s first period class brought in the most of any class, team or club, followed by Mrs. Sydney Newton’s first period class in second, and the TCHS Girls Basketball team in third.

In addition to items donated by classes, teams and clubs, TCHS FFA and the TCHS Agriculture Department conducted fundraisers in order to purchase pallets of canned goods and a wide variety of other items to donate.

This year’s theme was “Under Can-struction,” with participants encouraged to display their donated items in the front lobby of the high school in a manner that matched the theme.

The Agriculture Department won 1st place in the design contest with a large dump truck-shaped display. Mrs. Newton’s class won 2nd with its hammer and wrench design, while Mrs. Lindsey McPherson and Ms. Ashley Neal’s classes combined cans to share 3rd place with a Christmas tree design.

Following the design competition, the displays were deconstructed and items were taken to Green River Ministries to be donated.

Thank you to everyone who donated to make this year’s food drive a success, and thank you to every teacher and student whose time and effort went into making this event excellent!
