We would like to congratulate Coach Jeff Gumm on the completion of a historic baseball coaching career with the Taylor County School District.
Coach Gumm and his wife Debbie, sons Josh and Jeffrey, and their families, are fantastic people to be associated with and who have been devoted to this community for several decades. Jeff has been the head baseball coach at Taylor County for 30 years. He has had the honor of coaching thousands of fine young men throughout this community. Coach Gumm has amassed a staggering 702 wins as the Taylor County head baseball coach, as well as winning 13 district championships and two regional crowns on his way to a .710 overall winning percentage to solidify him as one of the all-time greats in Kentucky baseball coaching history.
Coach Gumm was raised in a highly competitive family. His father and mentor, Peewee Gumm, was the first high school baseball coach in Kentucky to reach 1,000 wins. Jeff’s brother, Greg Gumm, won 474 games as a baseball coach in Kentucky. In total, the father and son trio combined have a historic 2,182 varsity baseball wins in the state of Kentucky. Jeff Gumm is an avid competitor and will forever be remembered as a coach who gave his all each and every game.
Off the field, the Gumm family is growing as they have three grandchildren and one more on the way. His wife, children, and grandchildren are the shining light of his life and have been his support system and biggest fans. Though stepping away from something that has been a part of his entire life is difficult, it is all telling that Coach Gumm will now focus his life on those around him that have backed him the most, his family. Most weekends and several weekdays you can find Pop now hanging out at a ballpark watching the grandkids play softball and baseball or giving them lessons in his front yard. By choosing God and family as the priorities in his life, Coach Gumm has achieved the most valuable win of his career.
We wish you many blessings Coach Gumm & Family. God Bless!
