Taylor County School District celebrated its 2019 Opening Day for teachers and staff on Monday, August 19, 2019.

The morning portion of the event took place in the Roger D. The Caring for Kids Foundation was also introduced during Opening Day. The Caring for Kids Foundation has been launched by Taylor County Schools to try and recoup cut funding to be able to help all students in the district succeed. The Caring for Kids Foundation was already able to donate $1,000 to the Taylor County Primary Center Cardinal BRANCH (Believing, Reaching, Achieving, Navigating, Challenging, Helping) thanks to contributions from local community members.

Following the presentation, all district employees went on a Taylor County Welcome Back Bus Tour! 23 buses went out on their daily bus routes with approximately 350 staff members in tow! Staff members visited students’ houses and delivered care packages to kick off the new school year. Ann Mattingly and April Melton with the Family Resource Center and Youth Services helped arrange all of the care packages and the goodies inside. We would like to give a special thanks to our bus drivers who have big hearts and truly take the time to get to know each student on their bus!
