On Thursday, March 21, 2019, Kentucky State Senator Max Wise visited with 5th grade students at Taylor County Intermediate School. Earlier in the year, the students in Mrs. Gaskins’ class wrote persuasive argument pieces to Senator Wise regarding Cyber Snow Days.
Senator Wise spoke with the students about the seven counties and 115,00 people he represents, the 16th District, and the campaign process. He also described the role of a Senator, working in Frankfort, and the many “behind the scenes” jobs that are needed to help Frankfort and the Capital run.
The students reviewed with Senator Wise the veto process, the legislative branch, the executive branch, the judicial branch, and House and Senate terms, all of which they have been learning about in their social studies class.
Lastly, Senator Wise and Superintendent Charles Higdon, Jr. explained to the students how the political system, education system, and our community work together and communicate. As Senator Wise said, it is important to hear from all stakeholders when passing legislation.
Taylor County Intermediate School and Taylor County School District would like to thank Senator Max Wise for taking the time out of his busy schedule to visit TCIS and for speaking with our students!
