On Thursday, April 11, 2019, Dr. Wayne D. Lewis Jr., Commissioner of Education, visited Taylor County School District.
Commissioner Lewis started his visit by learning more about Taylor County High School’s newest school-based enterprise, Central Kentucky Marketing Prep (CK-Prep). CK-Prep is a workforce development prep center focused on marketing and entrepreneurship. Commissioner Lewis toured the store, led by TCHS students, and learned about the various positions the students hold and how their hands-on experience at the liquidation and final sale business prepares them for life after high school.
After touring CK-Prep, Commissioner Lewis spent time at Taylor County High School to visit more school-based enterprises, including TCHS Cosmetology, Cardinal Corral, Cardinal Kroger, Taylor County Bank Cardinal Financial Center, and Fancy That Boutique. The students explained to Lewis how their SBE is ran, how it helps prepare them for the future, roles and duties within their SBE, what they enjoy most about participating in their SBE, and the real-life experience they are gaining each day.
Commissioner Lewis went on to speak at the Campbellsville/Taylor County Chamber of Commerce luncheon after his visit with Taylor County Schools. Taylor County School District would like to thank Commissioner Lewis for taking the time to visit to learn more about the various programs our district offers our students to ensure they are career ready, college ready, and life ready.
