Taylor County High School is now offering a CrossFit-style conditioning program for female athletes during 7th period. Allison Sode, Chemistry Teacher at TCHS, is the Certified CrossFit Coach who is leading the program.
CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program and includes ten fitness domains: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. TCHS has ordered plyo boxes, kettlebells, dumbbells, jump ropes, medicine balls, and ab mats to equip the athletes for the program.
Currently different sports teams, including girls softball, girls basketball, girls wrestling, girls tennis, and dance team members, are rotating through the conditioning program. The TCHS volleyball will join into the rotation after their season, as well as the girls bowling team! “My goal for this program is to build a community of female athletes who support, encourage, and push each other towards excellence. I want to teach girls to be confident in their athletic ability, strength, and overall wellness, said Sode.”
Taylor County School District is excited about this program for our female athletes! The program is currently looking to expand for our male athletes as well.
